What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a type of healthcare that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disorders of the musculoskeletal system, predominantly the spine, and how these disorders affect the nervous system. Chiropractors aim to restore function, reduce pain, and support the body’s natural healing process in a drug-free, non-invasive manner.

What conditions do chiropractors help?

Chiropractors can treat many different types of conditions. While our main focus is on treating conditions of the spine and the nervous system that is affected by these spinal conditions, chiropractors can help with conditions all over the musculoskeletal system including conditions in the:
– Neck
– Mid-back
– Low back
– Shoulders, Arms, Wrists, and Hands
– Hips, Knees, Ankles and Feet

What is a chiropractic adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is a controlled, targeted force to a specific joint that often produces a popping or clicking sound called a Cavitation. A cavitation is simply gas that is being released from the joint. These adjustments are used by chiropractors to correct misalignments in the spine and other joints that may be causing pain or radiating nerve symptoms in different areas of the body.

Are chiropractic adjustments safe?

Yes, chiropractic adjustments are non-invasive, drug-free, personalized techniques that, when performed by a licensed chiropractic professional, are safe and very effective. Chiropractors complete years of specialized training, education, and clinical training to learn to correctly evaluate, diagnose, and treat various musculoskeletal conditions. Additionally, chiropractors are trained in low force techniques like Activator and Impulse adjusting that are more gentle forms of adjustments but are just as effective.

What happens during a chiropractic adjustment?

During a chiropractic adjustment, there’s much more happening than just the familiar “pop” (known as a cavitation). That sound is simply gas bubbles being released within the joint as it’s moved, which is a normal and harmless part of the process.

Beyond the sound, the real benefits are happening deeper in the body. Chiropractic adjustment helps correct misalignments in the joints, especially in the spine. These misalignments can put pressure on or irritate the nerves that pass through the spinal column. When these nerves are compressed or irritated, they can lead to muscle tension, pain signals, inflammation, and even reduced circulation.

By restoring proper alignment, an adjustment can:
– Relieve nerve irritation
– Reduce pain signals
– Promote better blood flow and healing
– Relax surrounding muscles

How many chiropractic sessions will I need?

In general, the amount of sessions needed is determined by the severity of the issue and how the patient responds to treatment. Dr. Stoner and Dr. Bearer perform a chiropractic examination and determine a diagnosis based on their findings from this exam. Your first visit also includes your first treatment. After that, we will schedule a follow-up visit a few days after the initial visit and we will determine how many sessions are needed depending on how the first treatment was tolerated. Our doctors believe in honesty and doing what is best for their patients, so they will do everything they can to get you better as fast as they can!

Why do I need chiropractic care when I’m not in pain?

It is a good idea to go to your chiropractor on a regular basis even if you are not in pain. Chiropractic care has many benefits outside of reducing pain. Seeing your chiropractor regularly can help you increase mobility, reduce stress, improve posture, prevent future injury, and support the body’s overall well-being. All of these combine help to support your long-term health.

What does the first visit look like?

The Goal
Here at Inspire Chiropractic & Wellness, we want to make sure that your first visit is as relaxing and informative as possible. We want to ensure that when you leave, we’ll have given satisfying answers to all your questions. Our goal is to get you excited about the progress you’ve already made!

The Prep
Once you have an appointment booked, you will be greeted by our friendly receptionist who will be awaiting your arrival. We want to ensure that we understand you, your pain, and your history completely, so you will be expected to fill out paperwork when you arrive. We will ask you to come 20 minutes before your appointment time to complete this paperwork.

The paperwork will ask for your family history because some issues in your body can be hereditary (but that does not mean that we cannot fix them). It will also ask you questions about your health habits and your medical history. We want to cover all bases so that we are able to help you as much as possible.

The Exam
We understand the body and how it works. During your first visit, we will spend some time talking so that you can explain any pain that you have. We may feel around the painful areas to get a better sense of what is going on. If any imaging is needed, we can refer out to an imaging center.

The Treatment
After your examination, which will require you to move around and possibly even lay down so that we can get a better feel for what is going on, you will be able to talk to our compassionate and knowledgeable chiropractor. Be sure to tell your doctor all about the pain you are experiencing and any other symptoms you may be having, even during the treatment.

The Plan
At that point, your chiropractor will discuss your condition and your options. Together, you can decide what you feel comfortable doing and come up with a game plan to help you. We truly believe that pain is often the result of something in our body being out of alignment. We will work hard to ensure that your body gets back into alignment so that you are pain free again!

Our goal is to help you to feel better (and stay that way) as quickly as possible. It is possible to live a life without pain!

How long does a chiropractic appointment last?

The length of a chiropractic treatment is rather short. When you first come into the office your appointment time will be a 30-40 min slot. This is the longest appointment you will have due to the need to perform a targeted history and exam to help pinpoint what is causing your pain. After the first visit you will schedule a 10 min slot. This is the length of a normal chiropractic appointment. Time can also vary by about 20-30 min if you are having any modalities done like E-stim or ultrasound therapy.

Do insurance plans cover chiropractic?

We accept Highmark, Capital Blue Cross, Aetna, and Medicare insurance plans. We also accept auto/personal injury and worker’s compensation insurances. Since there are so many different plans and coverage options available, we are unable to give you an exact cost estimate and/or guarantee of what will and won’t be covered. When you schedule your appointment, we will take your insurance information. At the time of your first appointment, we will provide an estimate of what your insurance will cover and what financial responsibility you may have. Ultimately, however, it is entirely up to your insurance plan to determine what services will be covered and how much of the cost will be moved toward patient financial responsibility.

What are the payment options?

We accept cash, checks, and debit cards. We also accept most major credit cards including Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express.
